BALL VALVES

In this type of valve, a rotating ball at its centre, known as a rotary ball, regulates the flow of liquids, vapours and gases. This ball has a hole, known as a bore, at its centre, and a shaft fixed on top of it.

CHECK VALVES

If a fluid gets contaminated while flowing in its channel, backflow of this fluid can contaminate its source. For this reason, backflow of fluids should be prevented to avoid contamination. Check valves are specifically designed to allow fluids to pass only in one direction, so that there is no backflow in an industrial system. Two-way check valves are the most commonly used types of check valves in industries.

GLOBE VALVES

These cylindrical valves are mainly used in the pipeline industry to regulate the flow of fluids. The globe valve is segregated into two parts by an internal baffle. It consists of a disc, which may be moved using a shaft to open or close the valve. These valves are called globe valves owing to a globe-like cavity that forms around the port area. There are three main types of globe valve – T-type globe valves, angle globe valves and Y-pattern globe valves. T-type globe valves are the most common ones and have horizontally placed seats.

GATE VALVES

A gate valve is essentially utilised for one of two purposes – to totally block the flow of a fluid or allow a fluid to flow completely in a pipeline. Thus, gate valves are used only in the fully open or fully closed positions. These devices consist of a stem or shaft, which can be rotated through a spindle. The gate, which is fastened by threads, opens up when the shaft is rotated, allowing fluids to pass through it.
